MARTIAL ARTS [Combat, Martial]

You are skilled at fighting while unarmed and can deal more damage with unarmed strikes.  You are also capable of inflicting critical hits with unarmed attacks.  Contrary to popular belief, the term "martial arts" is not a term used only for the unarmed combat styles of the east.  It covers all unarmed combat styles of the Known World.

Benefit: A Medium-sized character deals 1d4 points of damage with unarmed attacks.  Strength modifiers apply.  Also, you can threaten a critical hit on a natural roll of 20.

Small characters deal 1d3 points of damage, and Large characters deal 1d6 points of damage with an unarmed strike and this feat.

A character with the Martial Arts feat does not provoke an attack of opportunity when making an unarmed attack against an armed opponent, but an opponent does provoke an attack of opportunity when making an unarmed attack against a character with the Martial Arts feat.

Damage done by a character with the Martial Arts feat can freely choose to inflict lethal or subdual damage without taking any penalties to an attack roll.

Normal: Without this feat, a Medium-size character deals only 1d3 points of damage (1d2 for Small characters, and 1d4 for Large characters), and can't inflict critical hits or cause lethal damage.
